Youth Leadership Council
Student participants in the Kentucky Rural Electric Washington Youth Tour may apply to be Kentucky’s representative to the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Youth Leadership Council (YLC). The YLC is composed of one representative from each of the 46 states that participate in the Youth Tour. YLC members have the opportunity for additional free travel and leadership training.
NRECA Youth Leadership Conference
July -- Washington, DC
At this three-day workshop, all 46 YLC representatives will have the opportunity to hone their public speaking skills, develop their leadership skills, and enhance their understanding of politics. Group recreational activities will also be provided.
Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives Annual Meeting
November -- Louisville, KY
Kentucky’s YLC representative will deliver a brief (5-7 minutes) luncheon speech about his or her experiences in Washington, DC, at this meeting of electric cooperative leaders from across Kentucky.
NRECA Annual Meeting
March -- Nashville, TN
All 46 YLC representatives will assist the NRECA staff with the conduct of the NRECA annual meeting. YLC responsibilities at this important meeting will include participating in the meeting’s opening assembly, staffing information booths, learning about energy issues, and assisting with committee meetings. Group recreational activities will also be provided.
Meet Kentucky’s 2015-2016 YLC Representative
Grace Flanagan is Kentucky’s representative on the 2015-2016 Youth Leadership Council (YLC) of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA).
Grace, a senior at Central Harding High School, was selected from among 85 students who participated in the Kentucky Rural Electric Washington Youth Tour (WYT) in June of 2015. Grace's WYT sponsoring cooperative is Nolin RECC.
